Testing CFM

How would you go about testing the airline in my booth to see if I am getting enough CFM? Is there a flow meter or something else I could put inline and check it? Where would you get one if there is such a thing?

Ryan,
Your local compressor supply house should have flow meters. Don't be surprised they are VERY expensive.

Hub, I did the test you sent. I maintained the same pressure for two minutes. Does that mean that I have adequate air volume?

Is it possible to maintain air pressure in the line if there isn't sufficient air volume?

There is about a 20 psi drop between my static pressure and my dynamic pressure. Is this normal? I am using a 50 ft air hose if that makes a difference.

Hi Ryan,
Yes, that means you have enough air to operate the spray gun you were testing.

Second Question - No

The drop is normal - Yes, the 50 footer makes a difference.
Shorter, longer, old and inside diameter of hose - will also affect the difference between the Static & dynamic readings.

you are half correct - anytime air is in a smaller space than normal, its technically deamed compressed.

That would depend on how you inflate the foil balloon. If you just inflate it enough to take it's shape then the pressure inside is equal to the outside pressure, but if you continue to inflate so it is tight then you are compressing the air inside.

Thank you, you just made my point. If enough air is introduced to smooth out the wrinkles that indeed would classify it as compressed.
