RPM on compressor motor.

I need to replace the motor on my air compressor. I am replacing it because it came with a 3 phase motor and I need a single phase motor.
It currently has a 3 phase, 7.5 hp that runs at 3500 rpms. I have found a few 7.5 hp motors that run a around 1750 rpms. Should I stick with the same rpms or would it be better to go with a slower motor?

Another question - Would going with a 5 hp motor be unwise?

Is the compressor single or two stage?

Is the 7.5 motor you found single phase?

I don't think the 5 horse is a good idea.

Pump is two stage. The 7.5 hp motor I found is single phase.

Good Morning Dan,
The 7.5 motor should be ok - but only turning half the speed the compressor may not be as efficirnt or reach the higher air pressures.

But just to be sure you should check with an electrician. Ask them about the possibility of over heating.
